We’ll start our tour of Viterbo, known worldwide as the city of the Popes for being the Holy See during the XIII century, starting from Piazza del Comune, where we’ll visit the Town Hall palace, its XVII century terrace embellished with a fountain and some Etruscan sarcophagus and some beautiful mannerist frescoes. We’ll then move to piazza San Lorenzo to admire the elegant and famous lodge of the Popes and visit the Cathedral. We’ll walk through the typical medieval area of San Pellegrino, with its buildings made of peperino rock, the profferli and the handicraft shops, and finally we’ll visit the museum of the Facchini of Saint Rosa, housing some scaled down reproductions of the Macchina, a tower 30 m high which each 3rd of September is taken around the city on the shoulders of about 100 men called facchini. During the tour we’ll stop for a free tasting of typical Tuscia products.
